Frequently Asked Questions

What is the benefit of working with an independent broker?

As an independent broker, I am not tied to a single insurance carrier. This allows me to objectively compare products across multiple companies to find the best fit for your specific financial architecture and goals.

What should I expect during a 10-minute sync?

The 10-minute sync is a brief, no-pressure discovery call to determine if we are a mutual fit. It’s an opportunity for you to ask questions and for me to understand your primary financial concerns.

How does the debt-free planning work?

Our debt-free planning approach focuses on reallocating your existing cash flow to eliminate liabilities faster while simultaneously building cash value through permanent life insurance products like indexed universal life (IUL) policies.

What does it mean to “fund” a trust?

Funding a trust is the essential process of transferring ownership of your assets from your individual name to the name of your trust. Think of your trust as a container; it only controls the assets that are actually placed inside it. This typically involves retitling assets (like real estate and bank accounts) or updating beneficiary designations.

Does a will need to be “funded”?

No, a will does not get “funded” in the same way a trust does. A will is a set of legal instructions that directs how your probate estate should be distributed after you pass away.

While you don’t “fund” a will, you should ensure your assets are aligned with your overall plan. For example, many people use a “pour-over” will alongside a living trust. This acts as a safety net to “catch” any assets that weren’t transferred into your trust during your lifetime and directs them to be added to the trust after your death.

Do you offer estate planning services directly?

We offer comprehensive estate planning—including wills, trusts, and powers of attorney—through our strategic partnership with EncorEstate Plans, ensuring a seamless integration with your life insurance planning.

What is the difference between a policy audit and a standard insurance quote?

A standard quote focuses on selling a product, while our Concierge Policy Audit is a deep-dive review of your existing coverage to identify gaps, over-insurance, or missed opportunities in your current financial architecture.

How do Hospital Indemnity and Critical Illness plans fit into my financial plan?

These products are designed to protect your savings from being drained by unexpected medical expenses. While health insurance covers the treatment, these plans provide a cash benefit to help you cover deductibles, household expenses, and other costs.

How do I partner with B. Drake Agency?

We are actively building reciprocal referral loops with CPAs and Mortgage Loan Officers in Texas, Ohio, and Virginia. I would love to schedule a 10-minute sync to determine if we are a mutual fit.

What is the difference between the Concierge Policy Audit and the Legacy & Protection Audit?

The Concierge Policy Audit is a complimentary 10-minute session for a quick review of your current coverage. The Legacy & Protection Audit is a more comprehensive 30-minute deep-dive into your broader financial architecture.

How do I fund a trust with a life insurance policy?

To fund a trust with a life insurance policy, you typically contact your insurance carrier and update your beneficiary designations to name the Trust itself as the primary beneficiary. This ensures the death benefit flows directly into the trust to be managed according to your exact instructions. Depending on your goals, you may also choose to transfer the actual ownership of the policy to an Irrevocable Life Insurance Trust (ILIT).
